For pure will, unassuaged of purpose, delivered from the lust of result, is every way perfect.

Thelema (Θελημα) is a philosophical, mystical, metaphysical, esoteric, magical, and cultural system based upon a seemingly simple premise: that every person is a divine projection of the Universal All and, as such, has within him or her a True Will that is the expression of one's deepest, most genuine self which acts in perfect accord with Nature. By laboring to apprehend and express this Will, one is able to live a life of greater harmony, fulfillment, and joy.

The concept of divine Will flowing through humans is an ancient one and has a place in almost all major religions. Thelema ("Will" in Greek) is the first religion, however, to place individual human Will at the center of its system. Around this center are principles that support the apprehension and expression of Will, including tolerance, harmony, liberty, engagement, self-reliance, critical thinking, and personal excellence as embodied in courage, integrity, beneficence, and openness. Further, the highest expression of Will is Love—the universal spiritual force whose goal is creation through union.

The theology of Thelema postulates all manifested existence arising from the interaction of two cosmic principles: infinitely extended, all-pervading Space; and the atomic, individually expressed Principle of Life and Wisdom. The interplay of these Principles gives rise to the Principle of Consciousness which governs existence. In the Book of the Law, the divine Principles are personified by a trinity of ancient Egyptian Divinities: Nuit, the Goddess of Infinite Space; Hadit, the Winged Serpent of Light; and Ra-Hoor-Khuit (Horus), the Solar, Hawk-Headed Lord of the Cosmos.

Thelema incorporates the idea of the cyclic evolution of Cultural Consciousness as well as of Personal Consciousness. History is considered to be divided into a series of "Æons", each with its own dominant concept of divinity and its own "formula" of redemption and advancement. The current Æon is termed the Æon of Horus. The previous Æon was that of Osiris, and previous to that was the Æon of Isis. The neolithic Æon of Isis is considered to have been dominated by the Maternal idea of divinity, and its formula involved devotion to Mother Earth in return for the nourishment and shelter She provided. The Classical/Medieval Æon of Osiris is considered to have been dominated by the Paternal Principle, and its formula was that of self-sacrifice and submission to the Father God. The modern Æon of Horus is considered to be dominated by the Principle of the Child, the sovereign individual; and its formula is that of growth, in consciousness and love, toward self-realization.

In Thelema, Khabs is the actual identity of the physical self, your real essential personality as opposed the the personality you generally present.

Khabs is Consciousness of one’s real Individuality, while Khu is the active conscious Personality. "The Khabs is in the Khu, not the Khu in the Khabs." This very clearly states that the Divine is not outside of man but is part of the Personality.

Awakening to this is the beginning of Knowledge of the Higher Self. The Divinity is not distant and separate but right in the heart of the matter—in fact, it’s the Soul of the Matter. The Khabs is the soul and the personality is function of the soul.

In Egyptian mythology, the Khu is a combination of your life force or spirit (the Ka) and the soul (the Ba). In Thelemic spirituality it is the part of you that creates a physical form, your body, so it can gain experience and self-consciousness.

"Do what thou wilt" does not mean "Do what you like.'' It is the apotheosis of Freedom, but it is also the strictest possible bond.

Do what thou wilt, then do nothing else. Let nothing deflect thee from that austere and holy task. Liberty is absolute to do thy will, but seek to do any other thing whatever, and instantly obstacles must arise. Every act that is not in definite course of that one orbit is erratic, an hindrance. Will must not be two, but one.

Thou must (1) Find out what is thy Will. (2) Do that Will with (a) one-pointedness (b) detachment (c) peace.
